Introduction to Lip Fillers
The advancements in lip fillers have allowed many women to experience the allure of plump, luscious lips. These enhancements contribute to a more youthful and sensual facial appearance and can reverse the aging process that often leaves the lips looking thin and dry.
Discover the transformative power of non-surgical lip augmentation using Juvederm, Juvederm Volbella or Restylane Kysse treatments that revitalize your lips, leaving them fuller, well-hydrated, and more vibrant. If you are unhappy with the appearance of your lips, contact Dr. Simona Pautler, M.D. FACS, a Pittsburgh plastic surgeon to discuss the options available to enhance the appearance of your lips.

Am I a Suitable Candidate for Non-Surgical Lip Augmentation?
If you have thin, deflated or asymmetric lips and are unhappy with the overall appearance, you are likely a good candidate for lip augmentation. As a minimally invasive procedure, these injections are suitable for patients of all ages.
Candidates should be in good physical and mental health and have realistic expectations of what the injections can provide. Additionally, lip fillers are an excellent option for those patients not interested in surgical intervention or those with busy schedules with no time for prolonged recovery periods.
How much do lip fillers cost in Pittsburgh?
Lip fillers in Pittsburgh cost on average around $700 to $1200 per syringe of filler. Thus the overall cost of the procedure can vary depending on whether Dr. Pautler uses Juvederm Volbella or Restylane Kysse and the amount needed to provide you with the desired results. At Simona Pautler M.D. FACS, each patient is evaluated on a case-by-case basis to determine the best plan to achieve the desired appearance of the lips.
At the initial consultation, our team is able to calculate a unit cost for the procedure and provide you with the financing options available, if needed. The best way to obtain accurate pricing is to set up a consultation for an individualized plan and cost information.
Procedure
Before the Procedure
In the days preceding the injection, it is important to take adequate precautions to reduce the risk of adverse effects. The pre-injection plan will be discussed in detail at the first exam and will include the following:
- It is advisable to refrain from taking over-the-counter medications that may thin the blood, such as aspirin, Advil, ibuprofen, Aleve, and naproxen, within 10 days of the injection.
- Discontinue the use of supplements that thin the blood, such as St. John’s Wort, Gingko biloba, primrose oil, garlic, ginseng, and Vitamin E, 7 days before the procedure.
- Avoid alcoholic beverages within 24 hours of the injection.
- On the day of injection, wash your face and do not put on make-up.
- If you are highly prone to cold sores on the lip, it is best to be pretreated with an anti-viral agent like Valtrex or Acyclovir a day before the treatment, the day of, and the day after.
During the Injection
Dr. Pautler follows a strict protocol to ensure the best results for her patients.
- To reduce the risk of infection the skin is cleaned by an antibacterial solution.
- The skin is numbed using a topical anesthetic and a local anesthetic will be mixed with the dermal filler to reduce pain and discomfort.
- The injected filler will be threaded into place with precise needle passes, and more filler will be injected if needed.
- The skin will then be cleaned and you will inspect the results to ensure satisfaction with the procedure.
After the Procedure
After the procedure, swelling or bruising at the injection sites or in the lips is common. This can be managed with icing for the first two days and by keeping your head elevated the evening following the procedure. Bruising at the injection sites can be covered with concealer or makeup 24 hours after the procedure. Pain after injection is usually minimal and can be managed with Tylenol as needed.
Results are typically seen immediately but may have some swelling that will resolve over the first week. It's common to notice slight asymmetries initially after the procedure, but these typically resolve within two weeks as the treatment product settles in and takes full effect.

Lip Filler FAQs
After the injection, elevate your head on a couple pillows when sleeping and lay on your back to prevent any pressure on your lips. Take over-the-counter medications as needed for pain and ice the lips. Drink plenty of fluids and eat a healthy well-balanced diet.
Avoid putting lipstick on, taking any blood-thinning medications, and strenuous exercise for 24 hours. Avoid kissing, touching, or massaging your lips after the injection. Do not drink through a straw or eat foods difficult to chew.
While the results are immediate, it will typically take up to two weeks for maximum results to be noticed and the filler to fully settle in.
After injections, it is recommended to apply ice following an on-and-off manner (10 minutes on, 10 minutes off) for the first 48 hours to reduce swelling and help with any discomfort experienced.
You should avoid eating until the numbing medications used have fully worn off to prevent you from accidentally biting your lips. This will typically resolve an hour or two after the surgery.
